Beauty for Ashes - Life in London

It was not yet crowded, so Tola and Aby took their time to walk leisurely down the cobbled street - London’s most famous shopping street, with its imposing buildings, many of which had barely survived the bombings of the Second World War.
How many millions of people had walked this street with its rows of tall imposing structures that housed the biggest collection of department stores in the country?  By midday each day the street would be filled with people from all nations shopping or just enjoying being part of the multitude.
Tola used to walk the stretch of the street from Bond Street station and Oxford Circus when she was working at Right-Two a few years previously. Tola was not a fan of crowds and she would avoid crowded places as much as possible. But Oxford Street was the place to get a good selection of fashion and during sales - a bargain. She needed to have a nice selection of outfits for her first meeting with Ope. This was worth braving the claustrophobic atmosphere.
